Since Newcastle United’s 2021 takeover and the on-field success that has followed, one of the chants most often heard at the Magpies’ matches is the EIEIEIO song.
It’s a song that has been heard in the past at St. James’ Park, though all too rarely in the Mike Ashley years that preceded the takeover. That’s because it refers to Newcastle’s rise up the Premier League.
E-I-E-I-E-I-O Up the Premier League We Go song lyrics
E-I-E-I-E-I-O,
Up the Premier League we go,
When we get to Europe,
This is what we sing,
We are Geordies,
Super Geordies,
And Eddie is our king

What’s the history of Newcastle United’s E-I-E-I-E-I-O Up the Premier League we go chant?
The chant dates back at least as far as the 90s when Toon fans serenaded Kevin Keegan with the chant as they rose from the second tier to a title tilt in the Premier League.
It’s been heard since then as Newcastle tasted success under Sir Bobby Robson and later Alan Pardew.
Variations of the chant are heard at other clubs, including for fans of clubs in lower divisions where the lyrics are changed from ‘Premier League’ to ‘Football League’.
Several Newcastle players have been seen singing along to the chant after matches at St. James’ Park.
